Expert 2:

Rachael Jayne Nixon, Owner of Chanix Millinery

Rachael began her career as a children’s nurse at Rachel House hospice in Kinross. Her interest in millinery came after she moved back home from a spell living in Saudi Arabia, where she’d bought a large and expensive ‘hatinator’ to attend a race day organised by the British Embassy.

After the hatinator was destroyed during her journey back home, she used her creative skills to make a replacement herself as she couldn’t find anything suitable.

The business began when she posted a photo of it on Facebook and got two orders for more! Since then she spent three years teaching herself the traditional millinery skills before studying it formally at Glasgow Clyde College and in a short time has become an international award-winning milliner.
